@mattvsjapanJapanese people will also applaud if you can just use chopsticks and say おいしい, so the bar is not that high. 😉 But you make an interesting point, I agree that it’s pretty easy to estimate someone’s proficiency from very little data.
It’s oden season again! I’m stuck in front of the computer, so oden (おでん stewed foods) are an easy meal that keeps for days. What everyone puts into their oden is subjective. Do you recognize the morsels in my Meiji-period dish? And do you approve of my using karashi mustard?

1. Tsukemen つけ麺
Like Ramen, but the Noodles are seperate. You dip the noodles in the sauce. Usually the sauce is much thicker with a lot of meat in it. If the sauce is runny like in regular ramen, I don't recommend.
